I've been delaying this for quite some time...
How Hard Can Love Be? (The Spinster Club#2)
source |
Genre: UKYA, Contemporaray, Feminism, Romance
I found Amber interesting but didn't really like her? I could understand how she felt annoyed about Kevin running off with her mum to America for two years but Amber was too unreasonable at times: constantly calling him 'bumface' because of his 'bum chin' and refusing to listen to him even though he wasn't that bad.
It was rather ironic that Amber kept complaining about how 'anti-feminist' Melody was with her purposely revealing clothes and provocative dance moves when she kept whinging and witching about her to Whinnie. All she had to do was ignore Melody, dang it!
Amber wasn't all that bad, though. Sometimes she could be witty in a funny way.
"I'm not a cynic," I protested. "I'm a terminal pessimist with an edge of angry realism."

What's a Girl Gotta Do? (Spinster Club #3)

What I can say is, I definitely prefer Lottie's voice over Amber's - despite me disapproving of her more.
In this book, Lottie embarks on a personal project to call out any sexism she sees for a month.
Honestly, I thought it was a good idea first when Lottie described it but when she actually started doing it... I thought she was bonkers.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes when Lottie complained about how the title 'Mrs' was sexist. Em, Lottie? Have you ever heard about the term 'Ms'? It sounds like 'miss' but it used for single and married females. If you don't like that, use ms!

...And a Happy New Year? (The Spinster Club #3.5)
source |
As expected, things changed.
Amber is still dating her perfect American prom king boyfriend Kyle but unfortunately she has been distant from both Lottie and Evie. She had a secret and planned to tell her friends later on during her New Year party. (unfortunately, Lottie found out Amber was moving to America to go on an Arts school and she went bonkers!)
Let me tell you, when the secrets were out, so were the tears.
